Wetherspoons Bans Adults Buying More Than 2 Drinks If Children Are Present

Sometimes, you really just wanna get on the sauce regardless of the kids being around – but sometimes, it’s not 100% appropriate.

Popular pub chain Wetherspoons has had to enforce a brand new rule that bans adults purchasing more than two drinks if children are with them.

The rule will allow adults to purchase one alcoholic beverage when children are present, followed by an additional drink with a sit-down meal – so if you’re feeling like a bit of a tipple while the kids occupy themselves on the iPads, you’re outta luck in ‘Spoons.

While of course most adults are sensible enough to know their limits and be able to have a cheeky couple of bevs without going off the rails, unfortunately the chain has confirmed the rule is needed due to an incident of ‘unruly behaviour.

The new rule, as expected, has caused absolute outrage across social media with Twitter users saying they’d ‘rather ban the kids’ and another saying ‘hard enough to get served as it is’.

The policy was enforced in one of the chain’s Kent establishments, with the company having an internal policy where managers can establish their own rules in the pubs.

The Kent pub put up a poster, which has now been removed, stating:

“As part of our licensing it is our responsibility to ensure that we are protecting children from harm.

“Therefore adults in charge of children will be allowed to have one alcoholic drink and a further alcoholic drink with a sit down meal.”

The policy can be implemented in any of the chain’s pubs at any point, with a spokesman of JD Wetherspoon confirming the Kent pub had a “positive effect” and received “good feedback” following the enforcement of the rule.
