Market Place, St George’s Minster… Edlo?
In news that probably surprises all of us, Doncaster is in the running to get its very own special edition Monopoly game. The new board would follow in the footsteps of other Yorkshire towns and cities such as Harrogate, Sheffield, Scarborough and Huddersfield – who’ve all been honoured with a version.
The Yorkshire town has been included in a shortlist of 25 other towns who are currently being considered, with Wakefield, Beverley, Chesterfield, Whitby and Pontefract all in the running too. The winning town is set to be revealed on March 5, with the makers of the game reportedly saying Doncaster is one of the favourites to win. Once the winner has been revealed, the public will be able to vote for their favourite landmarks to be added to the board. I vote HMP Lindholme for the prison!
Potential places of interest on the board could be Doncaster’s Frenchgate centre, the Minster, Cusworth Hall, the Corn Exchange and the racecourse. Bevs at the Ledger anyone?
A spokesperson for Winning Moves UK has said:
“We have been studying 25 different places from Whitby to Chesterfield.
Along our way we have discovered that Doncaster has lots of hidden treasures – absolutely essential as we need around 30 leading landmarks to fill any winning board so, yes, Doncaster is very much a front runner.”
