Exciting news as supermarket giant Asda has announced it will remain closed on Boxing Day, and reward its workers with a very generous 100% bonus.
All of its 631 branches across the country will remain closed and its staff will be given the day off to spend with loved ones. The news comes after workers have experienced one of the most challenging years on record due to the pandemic. As frontline workers, staff have selflessly served the country throughout the year, including two lockdowns.

The Grocer said their decision was made in response to the government’s five-day loosening of restrictions from 23rd December and 27th – that allows three households to reunite with each other.
The chain’s chief executive, Roger Burnley, speaking about the decision has said: “This is, of course, our busiest time of year.”
“But it was important for us to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to spend this time with those loved ones that you may not have seen for many months so, uniquely for this year, we will not reopen our stores until 27 December.”

Other shops to announce they will be remaining closed Boxing Day are Waitrose, John Lewis, Aldi, Wickes, Home Bargains, Homebase, Pets at Home and The Entertainer. The move is a really positive step, and after the year their workers have had, we doth our caps at the decision, especially after workers have faced a crisis unlike any in our lifetime.
