SquareMeal, the food review site and booking platform, has released its annual list of the top 100 restaurants. This carefully curated list offers a snapshot of some of the finest dining experiences across the UK. From tasting menus to casual dining, it showcases the most exciting spots in the country’s food scene for 2025.
SquareMeal takes pride in featuring the ‘cream of the crop’ each year, using a combination of in-house critic reviews and thousands of public votes from diners across the country. The result is a definitive guide to the best restaurants nationwide, from special occasion venues to beloved neighbourhood gems. This year, several outstanding Yorkshire restaurants have been recognised, cementing the region’s reputation for culinary excellence.
So, what are the best restaurants in Yorkshire, according to SqaureMeal for 2025:
Myse (10th)
The highest-ranking restaurant on the list, Myse is located within the Howardian Hills a National Landscape (previously known as Area of Outstanding Beauty) in the village of Hovingham and is one of the most incredible tasting menu experiences we’ve ever tried. I still dream about that Braised ox cheek in Yorkshire pudding batter, which has a roast dinner’s flavours in one bite. It serves up a British tasting menu in a renovated traditional Yorkshire pub that’s had a slick upgrade.
JÖRO (13th)
One we have yet to try Joro, meaning Earth in Old Norse, is located in Sheffield in the picturesque Oughtibridge Mill. Its influences are a blend of Nordic and Japanese with a seasonally driven tasting menu on offer. Eight years in and a move out of the city centre they’re still going strong.
The Angel at Hetton (15th)
After experiencing the amazing Sunday roast tasting menu we can see why this fantastic restaurant located in a 15th-century inn has such hype around it. The Michelin-star restaurant is located in the Yorkshire Dales and is known, quite rightly, as one of the UK’s best gastropubs.
Other notable mentions within Square Meals’ top 100 were of course Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall (27th) found in the iconic Grantley Hall. Tommy Banks’ Roots (28th) and The Abbey Inn Byland (68th), which has one of the best burgers we’ve ever tasted, I still have dreams about that bad boy also making the list. Forge at Middleton Lodge (31) and newcomers on the block Bavette (58th) in Leeds also made the list.

Two we’ve had on our list for too long and still not managed to get to Bench (74th) in Sheffield and The Box Tree (89th) in Ilkley both made the list. And, a favourite of ours Tharavadu (94th) rounded off the list for Yorkshire spots.
