HomeToGo compiled a selection of forests and woodlands across the United Kingdom by gathering information from various sources, including the websites of UK tourism boards and entities like Forestry England, Forestry and Land Scotland, Natural Resources Wales, and NI Direct*. Their ranking methodology involved the assessment of four key criteria: Serenity Score, Price Score, Rain & Shine Score, and Room to Explore Score for each location.
To conduct this ranking, HomeToGo researched and collected data points for these categories. Each data point was assigned a numerical value ranging from 5 to 10, with 5 denoting less favorable aspects and 10 representing more positive attributes. The cumulative score aimed to reach a maximum of 40, with 10 points available for each category. This process was utilized to evaluate and rank the various destinations across the UK’s forests and woodlands.
HomeToGo said: “This forest, nestled in the North York Moors National Park less than ten miles inland from the seaside town of Scarborough, is a real hidden gem – and a superlative setting for birdwatchers.
“Amble through the woods towards Raptor Viewpoint, from whence walkers can catch glances of birds of prey including honey buzzards, goshawks and red kites.”
