We love a hotel getaway in Yorkshire, whether it be a city break, a trip to the Dales, or a coastal stay. Especially when you feel like you don’t have to leave your stay. A good hotel shouldn’t just offer a place to lay your head, but should also be a destination in itself. Yorkshire is full of such things, as shown in the Sunday Times’ new list of the 100 best hotels in the country.
The paper’s expert reviewers put together a yearly list to showcase the UK’s finest stays to its readers. They look at such things as value for money, impressive design and facilities, as well as outstanding food and service. They chose a winner for each region as well as one hotel that stood out above the rest.
The Sunday Times’ hotel of the year for 2025 is The Cavendish Hotel in Derbyshire – just a stone’s throw away from good ol’ Yorkshire. It sits on the edge of the Chatsworth country estate, the paper commended the hotel’s fresh refurbishment by designer Nicola Harding.
For North and northeast England, The Angel at Hetton in the Yorkshire Dales was crowned the best place to stay for 2025. And, it’s not surprising. We enjoyed their iconic Sunday roast experience in the Michelin-starred restaurant. The whole experience was truly a standout experience of the year, as were the slick and stylish rooms.
Winners for each region weren’t the only thing the newspaper highlighted. They also gave a shoutout to categories such as the best beach hotel, family-friendly hotel, pub stay, foodie hotel, affordable hotel and one to watch.
And, another Yorkshire hotel, Saltmoore, came away with the winner for best beach hotel. The luxury hotel has been making waves since its huge renovation – and rightly deserves the accolade with its offering of an amazing restaurant, spa experience and rooms. Situated a stone’s throw from Sandsend beach, it has really set the benchmark in the area for what a hotel stay can be.
