ITV Confirms Emmerdale And Corrie Might Only Have Weeks Left

Mother will be sobbing into her commemorative Corrie mug at the thought, but according to ITV, there’s only be a few weeks left of our treasured soaps, thanks to Coronavirus. Shit really just got serious – I mean, how can we go on without a swift pint in the Woolpack and national treasure Ken Barlow during the week?

ITV boss Kevin Lygo confirmed the news while speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival just this week, revealing that the much-loved soaps only have a few weeks left on air during an online Q&A.

Both shows cut their weekly broadcasts down in order to keep the shows going for as long as possible, with filming coming to a halt as a result of the pandemic. Coronation Street has banked episodes until the end of June and are only showing three days a week currently, whereas Emmerdale is predicted to run out of episodes at the end of May.

And while all seems bleak right now, there is a chance that filming could resume if lockdown restrictions relax, but the ITV boss added that the older members may not return for some time, saying “I don’t want to make Ken Barlow sick.”

While we’re pretty distraught of the news of potentially no soaps, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that the self-isolation measures have helped stop the spread of the virus and that our beloved actors can get back to entertaining us soon, but only when it is safe to do so. Much like Lygo, we do not want to see Ken Barlow or our beloved Roy Cropper get sick.
