6 Of The Best Places To Live In Yorkshire For 2024 Have Been Revealed

It’s that time of year again when Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Live’ in the UK are named and 2024’s list features six beautiful areas in Yorkshire have been featured in the list.

We know how amazing Yorkshire is with its picturesque villages, and beautiful countryside and this year’s choices highlight that. And, some of Yorkshire’s towns and cities have featured in this year’s list with the overall winner being Leeds, West Yorkshire named best place to live in the North.

Judge highlighted that the city “established itself as a true northern powerhouse and is the perfect place to enjoy a good life on a good salary.”

The other five locations featured in the list have been given positive reviews from the guide that features 72 locations across the UK. With North Berwick, in East Lothian, named the best place to live in Britain. The Sunday Times team visits the locations and assesses on a range of factors from schools to transport to broadband speeds and culture as well as green spaces and the health of the high streets.

Helen Davies, editorial projects director and the Sunday Times Best Places to Live editor, said: “This guide is a celebration of towns, cities and villages that are each a fantastic place to live in 2024, from Dunkeld to Knutsford, Falmouth to Leeds. Wherever you are on the property ladder, there will be somewhere to suit you.

“These are all places where you can feel grounded as well as upwardly mobile: they have a mature sense of community, lively, supportive high streets and an eye to the future, whether that is eco-friendly measures, transport and regeneration, or imaginative inclusion of new housing.”

Leeds, West Yorkshire

Leeds is Yorkshire’s cosmopolitan city that the list calls a ‘true northern powerhouse’ highlighting the good life and good salary on offer. It highlights the five universities providing youthful energy to the city. With markets, Victorian arcades and more as well as the semi-rural suburbs are other aspects that have helped give the city the number one spot.

Boston Spa, North Yorkshire

A idyllic village located on the banks of the River Wharfe, the spa resort was highlighted for its thriving high street with restaurant and bars as well as its upmarket shops. It also has plenty of community spirit as well as a highly regarded secondary school.

Nether Edge, Sheffield

The family-friendly support was highlighted for its closeness to green space in the form of the Peak District. It has a fantastic community spirit with cosy coffee shops and it’s also home to with great schools.

Saltaire, West Yorkshire

Home to the UNESCO World Heritage sight, the spot was applauded for its artisan coffee spots, restaurants and atmosphere as well as being a perfect commuter spot being close to Leeds and Bradford.

Skipton, North Yorkshire

Gateway to the Dales, this is a returning town in the list. The market town is praised for its proximity to the Dales and for having plenty of pubs and restaurants as well as great schools.

Yorkshire Wolds

We may be a little biased towards this one coming from the Wolds. The festivals, farm shops and healthy outdoor lifestyle on offer were positives mentioned as well as affordable housing. It highlights the that under the big skies of these 400 square miles of prime farming country is like stepping back in time.
