All Creatures fans who are desperate for more from the gang will be happy to hear that Rachel Shenton, who plays Helen Herriot, is set to star in a brand new Channel 5 thriller named The Rumour playing a young mother seeking a fresh start.
Shenton’s character, Joanna is moving to the quiet town of Flinstead with her young son in search of a new start. But struggles to make friends due to the local mothers and cliques in the community, which seem ‘unsettling’. The new series is based on a Sunday Times bestselling book by Lesley Kara of the same name.

Alongside Shenton, you’ll find Rivals star Emily Atack, Wolf Hall actress Joanne Whalley, and History Boys actor Samuel Anderson. Other cast members include: Ellie Haddington, Lucy Speed, Liza Sadovy, Carryl Thomas, Tamzin Griffin, Alex Waldmann and Okezie Morro.
The synopsis for The Rumour reads: “When Joanna stumbles upon an online rumour about a child killer living in the town, she uses it to win over the mums at the school gate. As gossip spreads, suspicions build, and Joanna finds herself drawn into a web of secrets and paranoia.”
“Balancing her efforts to protect her son with the growing unease in town, Joanna struggles to distinguish between truth and hearsay. With relationships strained and emotions running high, the boundaries between trust and fear blur.”
The Radio Times reported that Rachel Shenton said: “I’m really excited to play Joanna. The Rumour is a story of a woman unravelling as she relentlessly pursues the truth. She’s very relatable and the cast are amazing. It’s lovely to work with so many women.”
