Happy Valley Shortlisted For An Award At The National Television Awards 2023

Feels like a lifetime ago that the whole nation were on the edge of their seats for BBC Drama Happy Valley. Although, it feels a long time ago, Catherine, Tommy and the rest of the Hebden Bridge crew are strong contenders at this year’s National Television Awards.

Within the drama performance category, Sarah Lancashire and James Norton, portraying Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce, respectively, are set to compete once again. They have been nominated for their exceptional performances in the series “Happy Valley.”

They share this category with other notable nominees such as Brenda Blethyn from “Vera,” Judy Parfitt from “Call the Midwife,” and India Amarteifio from “Queen Charlotte’s.”

Viewers raved over the final series, especially the difficult finale. We were taken on a whirl of emotions every throughout the series thanks to the brilliant writing of Sally Wainright and of course Catherine Cawood’s dark and off-the-cuff sense of humour.

Sally Wainright, the writer of the show, spoke about the award-winning drama in a recent interview revealing how it got its name saying: “So Happy Valley… I always work closely with police advisors, who are old police officers who have worked in the area, and one of them told me that is what they call the Valley because of issues with drugs, so for me, it reflected the show.

The awards are set to take place at The O2 London, with the ceremony being broadcasted live via ITV from 8pm – Tuesday 5th September.
