We all like a spooky tale told to us, and at this time of year, people are looking for various scary places to visit. Well, this place in South Yorkshire is known to be a popular place for paranormal investigators to visit due to the place being haunted by a number of spirits. There are plenty of places that are populat for spooky goings on in Yorkshire.

Cadeby Tunnel between Conisbrough and Cadeby had been unused for nearly 50 years and is known as a place of high paranormal activity. So, if you’re looking to be spooked – this may be the place for you.
Doncaster Freepress reported that local paranormal enthusiast Dean Buckley has investigated the tunnel which shut back in 1975 with mediums Gail Buckley and Veronica Buckley and has seen ‘a number of experiences’ there.

He talks of various unexplained incidents in the tunnel. One of which was three figures walking past the tunnel, as well as banging and voices heard coming from the tunnel. A spirit of a young girl known as the Mexborough Ragger is one of the inhabitants of the haunted tunnel near Doncaster.
He said: “The story goes she was hit by an oncoming train in the tunnel with her brother as well. They were both carrying water through it. It is her spirit that has been seen by locals as they walk past.”
An Instagram post explains what happened in more detail writing: “This little girl would call out for rags from the locals which then she would travel by foot to the quarries in the Don Gorge & sell them. As well as carrying her rags to sell she would be carrying water to give to the quarrymen.


“On the day of her death it is said she decided to take a short cut through Cadeby Tunnel. Due o the loud blasting coming from the quarry she didn’t hear the oncoming train. She did see the train entering the tunnel & desperately scrambled for safety in an safety archway which she actually managed to do. Unfortunately she dropped some of her rags & she decided to go back & retrieve them which had fatal consequences.”
