Cannon Hall Farm, in South Yorkshire, is a family-run working farm, which was made popular by the Channel 5 show This Week On The Farm presented by Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson. South Yorkshire’s answer to Our Yorkshire Farm, the popular Channel 5 show, follows farming brothers Rob and Dave Nicholson as they tackle the day-to-day running of their South Yorkshire.
The successful series is now on its fourth series and still going strong. And, as well as being a successful farm, it is also a tourist attraction where you can visit and interact with the animals, let your kids play in the outdoor adventure park, visit the Hungry Llama Indoor Play and more.
It has won various awards for its tourism, including Best Large Visitor Attraction in the White Rose Awards. Tickets start from £4.95 and can be booked on Cannon Hall’s website.
The farm has great reviews on TripAdvisor, with over 2,000 people reviewing their visit. One person wrote: “Would highly recommend this farm plenty to see and kid’s will love it. Plenty of play area’s and a great soft play area’s.”
Whilst another said the food was great and inexpensive also saying “fantastic place lots to look at and things to do… took our 3 and 8 year old granddaughters, they loved every minute… every single member of staff were very friendly”.
The farm also played host to the first ‘5 on the Farm’ festival, which celebrated all the amazing Yorkshire programming that Channel 5 has to offer. Stars of shows such as Our Yorkshire Farm, The Yorkshire Vet, and Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly all headed down to the farm last summer.
Who owns Cannon Hall Farm?
Cannon Hall Farm is owned by the 76-Year-Old farmer, Roger Nicholson, who has been working on the farm that his father purchased since he was 116 years of age.
Roger’s father, Charlie, bought the land at auction for £7,100 using his life savings to do so. Charlie sadly passed away when Roger was 16 leaving him to take responsibility for the running of the farm. Two year’s later with Cannon Hall Farm struggling to create the same success, he came up with an idea to turn it into a tourist attraction.
The successful farm will likely be handed down to the next generation of Nicholsons, but Roger shows signs of retiring, so don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
