Christmas Set To Comes Early At This Yorkshire Seaside Town

Christmas in August? No, you haven’t got sunstroke. A resort in East Yorkshire is thinking of unique ways to entice visitors this winter and has decided a summer Christmas is the answer.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is bringing Bridmas Day to Bridlington on Wednesday, 7th August, to promote its winter events and attractions to summer holidaymakers. Festive-themed events will take over a range of venues across the seaside town.

You can visit Bridlington Spa, Sewerby Hall and Gardens, and the iconic land trains, all of which will have had a fantastic Xmas makeover. The council aims to showcase that the town isn’t just a place for ice creams and summer sun.

There will be festive-themed fun on the beach as well as screenings of the classic Christmas film Elf. Some cafes will be serving festive treats that you’d expect to see in the colder months. It’s set to start on the south beach, outside Bridlington Spa, where the council’s Active Coast team will be hosting free activities with a festive sparkle.

The town’s land train will be playing all the classic festive hits, and there will also be a chance to enjoy an hour’s free swimming session from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at East Riding Leisure Bridlington.

Keep an eye out as the town’s panto stars will be promoting this year’s performance of Jack and the Beanstalk at Bridlington Spa.

Councillor Barbara Jefferson, the council’s cabinet member for heritage and coastal, said the aim is to show that “Bridlington isn’t just a summer destination” and that it’s a “fantastic place” to come at Christmas.

Ms Jefferson said, “It’s certainly unusual, bringing Christmas to the seaside in the height of summer, but we really hope people will join in the festive fun.”
