We love a crime drama here at The Yorkshireman, even if it is filmed in Lancashire. And, the BBC’s newest release The Jetty has had reave reviews with viewers absolutely loving the new show. It’s available on BBC iPlayer – and is one to watch.
Here is the revised text with corrected spelling and grammar:
We gave it a watch this week and were pleasantly surprised. It didn’t reach the same heights as Happy Valley, with characters like Tommy Lee Royce and Catherine Cawood, but it was a great watch with plenty of tense moments that keep you guessing. Crime dramas will always be compared to the Sally Wainwright show, but few will be able to capture the essence as the Hebden Bridge-based drama did.
The four-part series is set in an eerie lakeside town where an arson, missing persons cold cast and an illicit love triangle are al intertwined. And, although they’ve set it over the Pennines in Lancashire, we’ve heard it’s going to be good. It centres around female detective, played by Jenna Cole from Doctor Who, and her investigation into the intrigue events.
The synopsis for the series reads “When a fire tears through a property in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning (Coleman) must work out how it connects to a podcast journalist investigating a missing persons cold case and an illicit ‘love’ triangle between a man in his twenties and two underage girls.

“But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she’s always called home.”
Speaking about the show, Jenna Coleman, discussed that: “Working with the BBC and Firebird Pictures on bringing the complex and enigmatic character of Ember Manning to life has been an incredible experience. I can’t wait for everyone to meet this new heroine and to find out what’s lurking beneath the surface of The Jetty.”
The coming-of-age crime drama The Jetty was written and created by Cat Jones and has a fantastic cast that includes: Archie Renaux (Alien: Romulus), Arthur Hughes (Shardlake), Bo Bragason (Renegade Nell), Elliot Cowan (Peaky Blinders), Matthew McNulty (Cleaning Up), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.), Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon) and Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You)
