Five Yorkshire Spots Named In Top 10 Cheapest UK Holiday Destinations

Five Yorkshire destinations have been named among the UK’s cheapest holiday spots for 2026. It comes as no surprise to us, as Yorkshire folk have always known how to make their money go further. With more holidaymakers choosing to stay closer to home, UK getaways are becoming increasingly popular, particularly among younger travellers, with 30% of Gen Z and 33% of Millennials opting for more affordable destinations.

So, where are the cheapest places to holiday in the UK?

According to Sykes Holiday Cottages, Saltburn-by-the-Sea was ranked as the second-cheapest holiday destination in the country. The classic seaside town offers a memorable break with its traditional charm, sandy beach, and stunning coastline. Visitors can enjoy long walks along the shore, surfing, paddling, or simply tucking into fish and chips while taking in the sea views.

One of Saltburn’s standout attractions is its cliff tramway, the oldest water-balanced cliff lift in Britain, which provides both a unique experience and an easy way to travel between the town and beach.

In third place was Haworth, which has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent months thanks to the upcoming Wuthering Heights film starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. The picturesque village is home to a bustling Main Street lined with independent shops, pubs, and cafés, while its strong connections to the Brontë sisters continue to attract literary enthusiasts from around the world.

Just outside the top three is Hornsea, another classic Yorkshire seaside town packed with charm. Hornsea Beach is the main attraction, offering miles of coastline perfect for family days out, seaside strolls, and spectacular sea views. Quieter than some of Yorkshire’s larger resorts, it provides the ideal setting for a relaxing coastal escape.

Staithes, one of England’s most picturesque fishing villages, was ranked fifth on the list. No visit is complete without stopping at the famous Cod & Lobster pub overlooking the harbour. The village is renowned for its narrow streets, cosy pubs, and distinctive red-roofed cottages. Visitors can spend their days exploring the harbour, relaxing by the sea, or admiring the views. It’s also a favourite among walkers and photographers, with the Cleveland Way National Trail passing through.

The final Yorkshire destination to feature on the list is Thirsk. Nestled between the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the market town combines countryside charm with affordability. Its independent shops, traditional pubs, and welcoming cafés make it a delightful place to explore, while Thirsk Racecourse offers one of Yorkshire’s most popular sporting days out.
