‘Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire Awarded CBE In New Years Honours List

Sarah Lancashire has been recognised in the New Year Honours list this year. The BAFTA-winning actress said it was an “unexpected delight.” The Greater Manchester-born actress made her name in Coronation Street through her role as Raquel Watts but became a Yorkshire icon for her portrayal of Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the BBC’s Happy Valley.

She is also known for her role in Last Tango in Halifax and, more recently, the hit Netflix spy thriller Black Doves, where she stars alongside Keira Knightley and Paddington’s Ben Whishaw.

Sarah Lancashire, the 60-year-old raised in Oldham, said it was “an unexpected delight” to become a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her services to drama.

Lancashire won a range of awards for her role as Catherine Cawood, including the BAFTA for Best Actress for her performance in the second series. She was later awarded the Best Actress BAFTA for her portrayal in the finale of Happy Valley, with the final kitchen showdown with James Norton also winning the Most Memorable Moment award at the ceremony.

If that wasn’t enough, the actress also clinched the Rose d’Or Award for her remarkable work. The Rose d’Or Awards is a distinguished ceremony recognising international excellence in entertainment programming.
