One of Leeds city’s biggest events is set to return this October. Leeds Light Night 2025 promises two nights of illuminating fun – with awe-inspiring displays for visitors to enjoy. Leeds’ landmarks will once again be transformed by stunning immersive displays, with several light shows taking place across the city centre. The event is expected to attract tens of thousands of people for this limited-time spectacle.
This year’s event takes place on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October, celebrating some of the city’s historic civic buildings, modern architecture, and public spaces. Highlights include a projection on the façade of the iconic Queens Hotel, celebrating 200 years of modern railway. Entitled One Second Lovestory by German artist Dirk Rauscher, the piece captures the romantic moment when two people’s eyes meet at a busy train station. The installation is sponsored by Markel.

Leeds Civic Hall will also feature a mesmerising new commission by Portuguese artists Ocubo, co-produced by the British Library. Entitled Portals: The Machine of Worlds, it incorporates fantastical imagery from books in the library’s collection, inviting visitors to explore universes of science, illusion, and discovery.
The annual light show, which has been running since 2005, transforms some of Leeds’ most recognisable indoor and outdoor spaces with spectacular artworks and captivating performances by local, national, and international artists. And, last year, 210,400 people attended over the two days, a record number.
Areas such as Millennium Square, Briggate, The Headrow and more will be included in Leeds Light Night 2025, with each location showcasing unique installations to keep visitors entertained for hours.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Press, Councillor Salma Arif said: “Light Night Leeds is an event which truly exemplifies the very best of culture and life in the city, bringing thousands of people together for a collective experience which celebrates artistic ingenuity and the power of the arts to unite.
“The impact the event has on the city in terms of boosting our reputation as a cultural destination, supporting the local economy, and promoting local and regional artists cannot be overstated, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to what will be an occasion like no other.”
