New Stephen Graham Crime Thriller Filmed In Leeds Is Now Streaming

We love Stephen Graham here in Yorkshire. Ever since he featured in the now classic This Is England, directed by Shane Meadows, he’s had a place in our hearts here at The Yorkshireman. And he’s back with a new thriller set in Yorkshire. The Good Boy is now available on Prime Video months after its cinema release.

The Good Boy scored a not too shabby 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Also known as Heel in the US, Stephen Graham plays Chris, an unassuming, mild-mannered police husband and father who abducts a 19-year-old, violent delinquent named Tommy, played by Anson Boon.

When he wakes up chained in a basement, Tommy is enraged and horrified. He’s isolated in the family’s basement along with his wife Kathryn, played by Andrea Riseborough, who set out to ‘reform’ his unruly behaviour and is forced to comply with their mind games or find a way to escape, according to JOE.

It’s set in Yorkshire, and The Good Boy is directed by on-the-rise Polish director Jan Komasa. It was filmed on location with Leeds city centre featured around the Lower Briggate and Irish Centre. The opening sequence of The Good Boy was shot on a high street in Leeds city centre. Interiors were shot in Warsaw.

Anson Boon spoke to Screen UK and said he filmed the opening sequence on a Friday night in Freshers week in the centre and said it was ‘really mental’ as he was actually filming a night out.
