Released back in 2012, Cleanskin is an ‘outstanding’ spy thriller with a pretty impressive British line-up including Abhin Galeya, Tuppence Middleton, Charlotte Rampling, James Fox, Shivani Ghai and Michelle Ryan.
Set in the aftermath of a terrorist attack, Cleanskin explores the murky world of counter-terrorism and asks difficult questions about morality, revenge and the lengths governments will go to in the name of security. It’s a tense, gritty thriller that keeps the action grounded and realistic.
Sean Bean is right at home in the role of Ewan, a hardened operative forced to navigate a dangerous cat-and-mouse game across London. It’s another reminder of why the Sheffield-born actor excels in gritty British dramas.
Bean plays a Secret Service agent tasked with tracking down members of a London-based terrorist group. Written and directed by Hadi Hajaig, the feature film gained an IMDB score of 6.2 and a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 53%. But the ratings don’t give this film credit; give it a watch. You won’t be disappointed.
It may not have received the same recognition as some of Sean Bean’s bigger projects, but if you’re after a gritty, fast-paced British thriller packed with tension and strong performances, Cleanskin is a hidden gem that’s well worth rediscovering on Netflix.
