Calling all Christmas lovers! We love the festive period, which you might have gathered considering it’s October, and we are already shouting about some of the fantastic festive events taking place in God’s Own Country. One such event you won’t want to miss is the hugely popular North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) Santa Special.
You can enjoy an interactive adventure this festive season as they climb aboard the Santa Express, an hour-long steam train journey with a whole host of festive including with songs, jokes, and plenty of Christmas magic. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a magical Christmas train journey without meeting Father Christmas himself, alongside his team of mischievous elves.
The Santa Express runs on 29–30 November and 6, 7, 13, 14, and 20–24 December, departing from either Pickering or Grosmont Station.
At Pickering Station, guests will be greeted by twinkling Christmas decorations, traditional games, and live singing to set the scene before boarding the beautifully dressed steam train. Once on board, Santa’s helpers will entertain with sing-alongs, Christmas-cracker jokes, and plenty of festive cheer. Every child will also receive a special keepsake gift to take home.
Santa has a handful of helpers to keep you entertained on your journey: Elton Elf, who’s famous for his musical talents, Joey Marshmallow, the cheeky trickster, and Chef Custard, who keeps Santa and his reindeer well-fed with his special recipes. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might even spot Chris Mouse, the station mouse, scurrying around and checking that everyone is on the Nice List with his trademark “eek, eek, eek!”
With Santa on board, no one leaves empty-handed. Children will receive a festive gift, join in with fun and games, and enjoy a truly unforgettable Christmas experience on this hour-long return journey through the North Yorkshire countryside.
