When I was eight, I visited my friend’s house and was amazed to be shown an actual treehouse at the back of his garden. Like something out of Hook, and we were the Lost Boys. Ever since then, subconsciously it’s all I’ve ever wanted, that was until I heard about Rufus’s Roost in Yorkshire. An actual treehouse luxury stay in the North York Moors. The adult equivalent of my childhood dream.
Escaping to a treehouse ’til this all blows over sounds pretty dreamy right now. And making that dream (almost) a reality are the lovely folk behind Baxby Manor – the creators of the seriously impressive treehouse, Rufus’s Roost. But before you start packing your bags, it’s worth noting this spot is super popular – and for good reason, too.
Tucked away in the trees on the edge of the stunning North York Moors in Husthwaite, the luxury treehouse has space enough for six – with several luxury amenities to make the getaway extra special.

Looking out over the countryside on the elevated veranda, guests can wind down in the hot tub, with a pizza oven on hand to cook up a little treat. Don’t make a peep, and you might be able to spot the local deer, badgers and other wildlife – with otters and bats setting up camp by the river. It’s no coincidence that such fantastic wildlife lives on-site either, with the owners purposefully planting hedgerows and forests across the land, allowing nature to thrive.

If that wasn’t enough fun for one luxury treehouse, it also features its very own slide (talk about living my Lost Boys’ dream) – which you’ll find hidden somewhere in the cabin – as well as a hidden reading nook that you can access via the tunnel… Just two of the many wonderful details to stumble upon within the property.

Not only is the place full of fun little cherries on top of an already tasty cake, but guests can also enjoy the many amenities that make the peaceful spot home-from-home – including a modern kitchen and bathroom, cosy double bedrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a wood-burning fire pit.

Rufus’s Roost can be found at the Baxby Manor campsite in Husthwaite, North Yorkshire, with prices starting at just £295 per night ( under £50pp when split between 6). You can find out more or book your stay via the website here. Baxby Manor, Bell Bank Wood, off, Bell Ln, Husthwaite, York YO61 4PW
