The Grand, York has unveiled its new luxury spa following a £2.8 million refurbishment, transforming the hotel’s underground vaults into a serene wellness retreat.
The new SubRosa spa is open to both hotel guests and day visitors, offering a range of state-of-the-art facilities designed for relaxation and wellbeing. At the centre of the spa is a large hydrotherapy pool, surrounded by a Tirol hot sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, herbal steam room, salt and light therapy room, herbal lounge, foot spas and tranquil relaxation spaces.
Guests can also book treatments including massages, facials and marocMaroc rituals, even without booking a full spa session or overnight stay.

Alongside the spa, The Grand has also launched the new SubRosa restaurant, led by Executive Head Chef Kevin Bonello. The menu takes inspiration from Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai and Korean cuisine, featuring sharing plates, noodle dishes and flavour-packed curries.
We recently visited the hidden underground retreat and loved the calming atmosphere, with the restaurant proving the perfect addition to a relaxing spa day.

Emma Sorby, Spa Director at The Grand, said: “After a six-month refurbishment, we are delighted to now be open.“SubRosa doesn’t just offer spa treatments; it delivers thoughtfully curated wellness experiences for each guest across mind and body, blending globally respected traditions with scientifically advanced products.”
Adam Dyke, General Manager of The Grand, added: “The significant investment has delivered a spa unlike anywhere else in the city. We are excited for guests to experience the facilities alongside the exceptional Asian inspired menu in SubRosa’s restaurant.”
Visitors can choose from full day, half day and twilight spa packages, with no hotel stay required to enjoy the experience. To find out more, head over to the website here.
