One Of Yorkshire’s Most Beautiful Castles Will Host A Stunning Light Trail This Winter

One of Yorkshire’s most magical castles is set to launch its first-ever Christmas light trail, which is set to illuminate Swinton Estate’s spectacular grounds this November.

Set within Masham, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Swinton Estate is home to stunning lakes and woodlands, where this festive season, visitors will be able to enjoy the grounds aglow as part of Luminescence – A Winter Light Trail, a mile-long trail of beautiful illuminations that will embellish nature.

Opening on the 6th November, right up until the end of February 2026, the family-friendly experience will boast a laser-lit welcome, alongside twinkles galore among the majestic trees, follies and lakeside paths, and even transport guests to another galaxy.

If that wasn’t all, guests will also be treated to some fantastic grub along the way, including seasonal favourites such as hot chocolate with marshmallows, or visit one of the two dining options available on-site, such as Samuel’s Restaurant or The Terrace.

Felicity Cunliffe-Lister comments: “We are unveiling the Luminescence – A Winter Light Trail as an immersive experience that we hope will captivate all the family.

“At this truly magical time of year, the Swinton Estate is a magnificent setting to bring people together and to celebrate the beauty of nature. Luminescence is a sensory journey through light, landscape and imagination and we’re thrilled to share it with our guests from early November and into the heart of wintertime.”

The 20,000-acre site is one of Yorkshire’s most luxurious destinations, home to the beautiful castle hotel, fine dining at Samuel’s Restaurant and the fantastic on-site spa.

Luminescence will be open from 4pm Thursday-Sunday from 6th November, with prices ranging between £12-15 per adult and £7.50-10 per child (off-peak/peak pricing). Under 5’s go free. Complimentary tramper wheelchairs can be provided when prebooked with Access the Dales.
