The World’s Biggest Living Christmas Tree Is In The North Of England

As the country begins to glitter with festive cheer, the world has gained a new contender for the biggest living Christmas tree – as officially recognised by Guinness World Records.

Located at Cragside in Northumberland, the Giant Redwood was unveiled last year, officially claiming its title this year.

Standing at a whopping 147 foot tall, the tree was planted in the 1860s, and today, stands at twice the height of the Angel of the North.

To celebrate, the tree has been decked with 1300 multi-coloured lights and purple bows for the festive season, and can be visited until 4th January.

The tree can be found on the edge of the Rock Garden near the house.

Steve Howard, Visitor Operations Manager, said: “It’s been quite the year of planning. Last year we presented the UK’s Tallest Living Christmas Tree, and we kept wondering if we could go one giant leap further and secure a Guinness World Records title… and we made it!”

Steve continued: “It’s been tough keeping this big secret quiet over the last few weeks, but we wanted to share our huge news while many people are putting up their own Christmas trees.”

Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville said: “The breathtaking giant redwood, perched on the edge of the hillside, is a vision of growth and pure beauty in Cragside’s historic landscape. It was a privilege to give this tree the recognition it deserves.”
