Sun? What’s that? It feels like a long time since we’ve felt the warmth of those golden rays — but it finally looks like they’re making a return, so let’s not scare them away. And while they’re here, and the weather in Yorkshire is half-decent, we want to make the most of it. That’s where this clever map comes in, helping sun-seekers track down the best sunny spots across the region. SunSeekr is changing the game when it comes to finding the best beer gardens in Yorkshire.
There is nothing worse than heading to the pub, for a few pints, a cocktail or a cheeky cider and you find the sunlight blocked by a nearby building or tree. Well, no more!
What’s so good about the SunSeekr map?

SunSeekr is an app that tracks sunlight in real time in cities. So, if you’re heading into a Yorkshire city this weekend, it’s well worth giving it a go. Created by architect Mo Dawood, it makes choosing which pub to visit in spring and summer that much easier.
The app takes into account the position of the sun and the height of surrounding buildings, analysing beer gardens and al fresco spots across each city. It then gives a real-time percentage showing how much sun each venue is getting. Mind-blowing, we know.

Mo Dawood explained that the map uses shadow simulation, Mapbox navigation tools, and OpenStreetMap data to deliver this impressive level of detail.
It’s not just about real-time updates either — you can also check ahead to see when your favourite spot will be basking in the sun. While it’s currently limited to cities, it’s still a game-changer for planning your next sunny pint.
If this sounds like a bit of you, you can download the app here.
