If you’re looking for the ultimate chocolatey pilgrimage, you’ll find it tucked away in Sheffield City Centre. Chocolate Bar, found in Leah’s Yard, is currently serving up what might just be the most impressive hot chocolates in the UK, transforming a simple sweet treat into a proper, sit-down experience.
The secret to the quality here lies in the provenance of the ingredients. The chocolate is crafted by Bullion, a Sheffield-based maker that is one of the very few “bean-to-bar” producers in the country. This means every sip is packed with the complex, rich flavours of high-quality cacao that has been roasted and refined right in the city, rather than being melted down from mass-produced industrial pellets.
The experience is entirely bespoke, allowing guests to choose their preferred base from a selection of white, milk, or dark chocolates. On our visit, we opted for a silky milk chocolate infused with zesty orange and a punchy 70% dark chocolate with a warming hint of chilli. For those who want to push the boat out, you can customise your cup with a range of other infusions, such as a refreshing hit of mint.
The real showstopper, however, is the presentation. Each whopping cup comes topped with a massive marshmallow that is toasted tableside with a blowtorch. This bit of theatrical flair adds a wonderful caramelised aroma to the air and turns a “grab and go” drink into a genuine moment to savour.
