One of the most famous seaside towns in North Yorkshire will be putting on the most incredible winter wonderland festival this year. What will be the first of its kind will celebrate hundreds of local businesses in a bid to help them recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
Whitby will hold the family-focused festival which will have a full-sized ice rink, and a range of food and drink stalls. With the sea a mere 15ft away, you won’t get much fresher seafood than Whitby’s local produce.

Organised by the new community group Welcome To Whitby, the new and exciting event will be run by volunteers. The ice rink will be undercover, and it is hoped that it will see 6,000 plus people visit over the holiday period.
Local restaurants that will be will featured at the festival will include the likes of The Star Inn The Harbour, headed by Michelin Star chef Andrew Pern. Whitby is known for its fish & chips, so we can expect some amazing food options!

Andy Brown, a spokesman for WTW said: “We wanted to provide something fun and engaging for the local community whilst also helping the businesses in the town have the opportunity to trade for a longer period.
“We hope everyone will enjoy the attractions being provided within the Whitby Winter Festival and we also hope it will become an annual programme of events.”
“As a Whitby lad, I think the ice rink and the festival as a whole is a great opportunity to bring all the family back to Whitby,” Andrew added.

“They can come for some great food and wine alongside the rest of the fun. The feeling of togetherness is something we all need and what better time than at Christmas?”
Kerry Carruthers, chief executive for Yorkshire Coast BID also discussed how: “We are thrilled to be supporting such a fantastic event for Whitby.
“The drive and passion that the organisers have to establish this event for the community and visitors following a tough 18 months, shaped our decision to support, and we are sure that it will be a great way to boost trade in the winter when visits to the area would typically start to slow down.”
The ice rink will open this week on November 26th, and you can find out more here.
