You can’t beat a good ol’ boozer, and one of Yorkshire’s has been named among the top three pubs in Britain for 2026, having been named the number one pub in the list last year – and we couldn’t be prouder.
The Highland Laddie in Leeds has risen from the ashes after closing in 2023, having previously been open for nearly 100 years. It was even on the verge of becoming a convenience store until Sam Pullman stepped in.
The pub is everything you could want from a traditional boozer. It has that old-world charm and character that makes you want to sit down with your mates, spend an evening chatting nonsense and slinging back a few ales. Not only does it have all that, but it also has some fantastic food on offer, which is why it has earned a place in the top three of the Good Food Guide’s list.
A Good Food Guide reviewer wrote about the pub: “Reenergised by the team behind the Empire Cafe in 2025, this is everything that a proper English pub should be.”
This year marks the Good Food Guide’s first-ever Britain’s 100 Best Pubs list, created in partnership with Yorkshire’s number one ale brewer, Timothy Taylor’s.
Another exciting addition to the list for Yorkshire is the Fylingdales Inn, which can be found just outside the iconic Robin Hood’s Bay, in the small village of Fylingdales. The pub came in at number 99 and, having visited ourselves, we predict big things for this stunning boozer. It has recently had a facelift and welcomed the skills of local chef George Husnamd, who has returned from London.
The pub celebrated its inclusion on social media, saying: “We are super excited to announce we have been named in @goodfoodguideuk top 100 pubs for 2026. We could not be prouder of our whole team in achieving this in such a short period of time since reopening. Big thank you to you all.”
