Summer is over, and the kids are going back to school. And while we know all the autumn fun still has to happen, we’d rather skip the Halloween fun (some of it, anyway) and head straight into Christmas.
And this year, Christmas in York city centre is getting an ice rink for the first time in 16 years.
Now, an ice rink to us screams Christmas. You look at old-fashioned postcards, and they always have those pretty ice rinks in townscapes. Well, the team behind Thor’s Tipi are bringing an ice rink to the city centre.
York Museum Gardens plays host to Thor’s Tipi each Christmas, and the new ice rink will be a stone’s throw away, at the back of York Art Gallery in the city’s Museum Gardens, The Press reports.
It will be built on a patio at the back of the art gallery, with access to the right of the building. Christmas trees, fairy lights and a festive theme will guide you towards the rink, which will also have a food and drinks stall on site.
When will Thor’s On Ice open?
Thor’s On Ice will run from November 13 to January 3, with the rink measuring 19m by 22m and able to accommodate up to 150 skaters at a time.
Set against the stunning surroundings of York Museum Gardens, with the historic city walls nearby, it sounds like it could be a pretty magical place to get your skates on this Christmas.
You can also visit Thor’s Tipi in the Museum Gardens and enjoy festive cocktails, mulled wine, hot chocolate, local beers, seasonal food vendors and live entertainment throughout the season.
