Channel 5’s flagship show has been recommissioned for a seventh series, and that’s before the sixth series has even aired, according to TV Zone UK. We couldn’t be happier. The thought of spending more time with the gang in Darrowby fills us with joy. At a time when the world feels uncertain, this kind of feel-good TV, celebrating community, togetherness, and caring for the vulnerable, is exactly what we need.
Based on the beloved novels by best-selling author James Herriot, the pen name of Alf Wight, the popular series, brought to us by production company Playground, is set to return this autumn with six new episodes, along with the always highly anticipated Christmas special. Filming wrapped at the end of June, with the show’s star announcing the news on Instagram. Ralph shared a caption that read: “Wrap on S6,” followed by a heart emoji.

Continuing the story of veterinary surgeon James Herriot as he navigates life in the Yorkshire Dales countryside, we’ll once again join the familiar faces of wife Helen, Tristan, Siegfried, Mrs Hall, and a cast of local farmers, townsfolk, and of course, animals, all set against the backdrop of the 1940s.
In series five, we saw James reunited with Helen and their baby after he was forced to return home from RAF training due to a brucellosis diagnosis, which made him unfit for service. Darrowby was in safe hands with Mrs Hall stepping in as a blackout warden. Fans also saw the bittersweet return of Tristan, while Carmody departed to take up a position at Imperial College London.
We’re not yet sure what series six of All Creatures Great and Small will bring, but we can’t wait to find out. With filming only just wrapped, there’s no release date confirmed just yet, but if past series are anything to go by, we can expect to be reunited with the Darrowby gang this autumn.
