All Creatures Great & Small Tease ‘Difficult Moments’ In Christmas Special As Air Date Revealed

Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small series four hit our screens this autumn and left us wanting more. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long as the Christmas Special is only around the corner and an air date has finally been given.

The Christmas Special for 2023 is named On a Wing and a Prayer and is set to air on Channel 5 Thursday 21st December at 9pm in the UK and can be found on Channel 5’s streaming platform My5 afterwards. But, what can we expect from the Christmas special?

Based on the novels by James Herriot pen name to veterinary surgeon James Alfred Wight, the big question is wether or not James will be back from the RAF training base for Christmas as a heavily pregnant Helen deals with life without her husband in Darrowby. An emotional phone cal shows his determination, but we’ll have to wait and see how it pans out.

Mrs Hall made some big decisions during series four that had us on the edge of our seats thinking we’d be losing another one of our favourite All Creatures cast members. Over the Christmas period Mrs Hall prepares a community Christmas celebration with the help , or hinderance, of Siegfried and newby to Skeldale House Carmody, who are more concerned with who will be Father Christmas.

The Second World War shadows the series further still into the Christmas Special of All Creature Great and Small. The Executive producer Melissa Gallant spoke to Radio Times explaining what we can expect saying:”Female friendships have been key.”

She continued: “We’re showing that whatever life brings, if we’ve got people around us who care – whether related or not – we’ll be all right. That feels so hopeful.”

Adding: “In difficult moments, people laugh and love each other. It’s what I love about the spirit of the show: they’re always outward-looking.”
