Barnsley is set to be the latest location for grocery retailer Asda’s new George concept store as the retailer continues to transform it. As part of the Asda Living portfolio across the UK, the new store will celebrate its opening by giving the first 500 customers who spend £5 or more in-store from 9am on opening day a golden ticket, offering the chance to win between £5 and £500 to spend in-store. There will also be a live DJ and a special appearance from Barnsley-born radio personality Stephanie Hirst.

Set to launch on 9 July, the Barnsley store will be the sixth stand-alone George store and the newest addition to the growing George estate, following the success of previous openings, which have received a positive response from customers. The new-format stores have enhanced the shopping experience by expanding the product range and offering a more modern, experiential retail environment.
The newly transformed store, located at Cortonwood Retail Park, will provide a dedicated destination for fashion and home shoppers. It will stock George clothing for women, men and children, alongside an expanded George Home range featuring bedding, bath, dining and home accessories.
If that wasn’t enough, shoppers will also find seasonal collections, Stacey Solomon’s latest George Home range, and selected pieces from Yasmin Le Bon’s George fashion edit.

Designed to make shopping easier and more inspiring, the new-format store will feature a dedicated character shop for families, upgraded fitting rooms, additional self-service tills, and a streamlined parcel collection service. It highlights Asda’s ongoing commitment to growing the George brand and creating modern retail spaces that showcase its fashion and home collections while delivering a more convenient shopping experience.

Celebrations will continue on Saturday, 11 July, with a special launch event from 10am, giving customers the opportunity to take part in a high-energy cyclone challenge for the chance to win George gift vouchers and other prizes.
