First-Look Images For Sally Wainwright’s Latest Series Filmed In Yorkshire

We love Sally Wainwright, the creator of fantastic series set in Yorkshire such as Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, and Gentleman Jack. And, she’s back with her latest series set and filmed in Yorkshire Riot Women. The BBC has released the first-look images giving us a glimpse into what’s to come.

Filmed in Hebdem Bridge, the home of Happy Valley, the series swaps out the police uniforms for guitars, amps and plenty of attitude in the new Riot Womenwhich centres around a female punk-rock band. Starring Joanna Scanlan (After Love, The Thick of It) as Beth, Rosalie Craig (Moonflower Murders, Serpent Queen) as Kitty, Tamsin Greig (Sexy Beast, The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin) as Holly, Lorraine Ashbourne (Sherwood, Alma’s Not Normal) as Jess, and Amelia Bullmore (The Buccaneers, Vienna Blood) as Yvonne, with Taj Atwal (Line of Duty), Chandeep Uppal (Holby City), and Macy-Jacob Seelochan (Shadow and Bone) as Nisha, Kam and Miranda, the band’s riotous backing singers.

The new pictures give a first look at the Riot Women band in action and feature. Discussing her new BBC show. the Riot Women creator, writer, director and executive producer Sally Wainwright said: “I’m having a whole new buzz of excitement about the show as we bring it together in the edit, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”

What can you expect from ‘Riot Women’?

Five women come together to create a punk-rock band in order to enter a local talent contest, and after writing their first song decide they have a lot to say and this is the perfect way to do it. Juggling jobs, husbands, children, grown up children and more the band becomes a catalyst for change in their lives.

The six-part series looks at the themes of the power of friendship, music, and the resilience of women who refuse to be silenced by age or expectation.

What is the BBC’s ‘Riot Women air date?

There is no release date as of yet, but Riot Women will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK later this year.
