Bert’s Set To Open Pasta And Gelato Bar In Hull’s Fruit Market

Successful pizzeria and café originating in Brandesburton is looking to open its third restaurant on the popular Humber Street. The family-owned business will open Bert’s Pasta and Bar across from Thieving Harry’s café.

Bert’s Pizza and Gelato opened three years ago on the overlooking the Dock amphitheatre and is hoping for the same success with its new sister restaurant, which will serve fresh small plates of paste in a chilled out atmosphere. Like the other two restaurants, Bert’s will be serving up a choice of 16 flavours of its famous gelato through a hatch for passersby to enjoy with waffles and milkshakes.

The new restaurant will be an intimate 40 seater venue suited for friends, couples and smaller groups sharing three to four paste seasonal dishes between two from a menu of around nine dishes.

There will be 60 al fresco dining covers overlooking Hull’s beautiful marina as well, which will be ideal in the summer. The owners are hoping to open the doors to their new venture at the end of September creating at least 10 new full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs.

Bert’s Pasta and Bar will keep its more modern industrial look with a burst of colour, in keeping with its other two restaurants.

The Fruit Market website reoprted: Ellie Mewburn, owner and manager of Bert’s – named after her grandfather Robert (Bert) Mewburn – said: “We’ve been made to feel so welcome by the Fruit Market community since we moved in and it’s definitely the place to be in Hull, so we’re incredibly excited to be expanding with this new venture.

“People come to the Fruit Market for something different and there’s nothing like Bert’s Pasta and Bar in the city, so it will complement the area perfectly.

Bert’s hope to bring their “own unique style” to the Fruit Market with their “small plate concept” which they “are confident people will be blown away by the delicious dishes we’ll be serving up.”

The menu is still being developed, but the restaurant will serve freshly made pasta with main dishes will include Venetian Duck Ragu with Stracci Pasta, Gnocchi with Sage and Nutmeg Butter, and Fettuccine with Tuscan Sausage, Garlic, Fennel and Chilli. A few starters may include burrata, Arancini, Polpetti Meatballs and Italian Cicchetti.

Prices will range from £5 to £9, so very reasonable – having been big fans of the Brandesburton venues, we are very excited about Bert’s 3.0.
