The weather may have taken a turn, but that’s not stopping us – and we’re all geared up for all things spooky. From carving up a pumpkin, eating your body weight in Halloween-shaped chocolates and turning off all the lights while hiding from the Trick or Treaters, it’s an annual tradition we very much look forward to.
But if you fancy something a little more sociable than eating all the treats before the kids knock on the door, we’ve rounded up all the best things to do in Yorkshire this Halloween. Let’s start in one of the county’s most beautiful but haunted cities.
1. Ghosts in the Gardens
Ghosts in the Gardens returns to the historic city of York. This Halloween-themed trail will see 70 ghostly sculptures lurking around 32 locations in the city. Each ghost represents a person or creature and tells a spooky tale from the city’s past. Locations include York Railway Station, Museum Gardens, Clifford’s Tower, and Castle Museum.
The best news is, it is totally free! So, head down to York and make 2026 your most haunting year yet.
Ghosts in the Gardens runs from 19th September until 1st November.
2. Hallowscream at York Maze
York Maze’s award-winning Hallowscream event is back, bringing some seriously spooky sights to the creepy maze. It now features five themed scare houses, stage shows, a food court, the VIP bar ‘Lucifer’s Lounge’, and fairground rides. There are also five terrifying scare mazes, each with a different theme to really test your courage. On top of all that, there are 150 live actors ready to scare the bejeebus out of you as you make your way round. So, maybe pack extra undies for this chilling, entertaining experience.

3. Spooky Sledmere
Next on our list of best things to do in Yorkshire at Halloween comes from East Yorkshire’s stunning Sledmere House, where you are invited for some ghoulish fun this October half term. Owl Adventures gives you the chance to enjoy a bird of prey flying show as well as getting up close and personal with some incredible reptiles.
For the brave, there is a Halloween trail with clues all the way down to the Walled Garden for a petrifying pumpkin hunt. In addition, there will be spooky activities to keep your little demons (and you!) entertained.

4. Halloween at Yorkshire Wildlife Park
This Halloween, the YWP will be filled with fearful family fun, live shows, colourful characters and things that go bump in the night! It’s sure to be one of the best things to do in Yorkshire this Halloween.
Think creepy characters and fun fairground rides, alongside spooky live shows for all the family. Oh, and if you dare, don’t miss the trick and treat trail. You grab a bag and visit the creepy cabins located around the park. Knock on the door and find out if you get a trick or a treat!

5. Halloween at Stockeld Park
Stockeld Park is pulling out all the stops this Halloween – with tons of experiences including a zombie laser tag, wicked witches in the Enchanted Forest, Halloween pumpkin picking, face painting, and much more. You can also win prizes! Put on your best and scariest Halloween costume, and one lucky winner will be selected for return tickets for their February Fun event.
Trust us when we say, the kids will be knackered afterwards. The family day out is taking place every October weekend and daily from the 24th of October until the 1st of November 2026.
There are tons to do at Stockeld Park already, too, including their epic Playhive, an array of outdoor play spaces, an enchanted maze, and a fantastic on-site pizzeria. Get your tickets here.
6. Frightwater Valley at Lightwater Valley
WARNING! Lightwater (or ‘Frightwater’) Valley has been taken over by Movie Mayhem! The blood-red carpet has been rolled, and your favourite film characters have escaped from the big screen and have taken over the park.
There is so much to see and do: famous faces on Icon Avenue, ghastly games, treats, tricks, live entertainment, and a lot of scares. For the very little ones, there is a Ghostly Soft Play area which has had a Halloween makeover. Back by popular demand is the famous and hauntingly fun Trick or Treat Trail.

7. Mother Shipton’s Halloween
Ready to be spooked by Sanderson Witches all over again? Well, Mother Shipton’s, England’s oldest tourist attraction, is putting on a haunting tribute to the ultimate Halloween film this year. They will be bringing all things Hocus Pocus to the cave this Halloween, with themed displays, spooky actors, plenty of photo opportunities, and of course, plenty of mischief promised.
The Petrifying Well and cave (Mother Shipton’s birthplace) will be open as usual. Because even scariest witches need a sweet treat, there’s plenty of refreshments to enjoy on-site too, including a devilishly delicious black vanilla ice cream and pumpkin spiced latte. Find out more here.
8. Halloween at The Forbidden Corner
The next event on our list of best things to do in Yorkshire at Halloween comes from ‘The Strangest Place in the World’. They will be hosting some family-friendly fun throughout October with spooky creatures and happenings to be found throughout the park. Your little monsters can win prizes for following Halloween quests, take part in fancy dress competitions, and enjoy the labyrinth, folly, unique buildings and statues.
From the 5th October until the 2nd November, our renowned folly will be transformed with delightfully eerie Halloween decorations. Expect creepy creatures, giant spiders, pumpkins, ghostly figures, and all manner of seasonal surprises around every twist and turn. Find out more here.
9. Halloween and Pumpkin Patch at Boston Park Farm
Spooky fun is back for another year at Boston Park Farm, boasting a fun touchlit hunt through the Maize Maze, fancy dress, disco tunes, and pumpkin carving for families to enjoy. From 18th to 31st October, you don’t want to miss this Yorkshire Halloween event.

10. Burton Agnes Hall Spooky Halloween Trail
Burton Agnes Hall’s Halloween trail kicks off on 24th October 2026 – 1st November 2026, bringing tons of frightful handcrafted scenes to discover in the eerie woods. There’s even an adventure playground for the kids to enjoy. It’s a fantastic option for a spooky dog walk, and you can even grab a bit of pizza in the gardens, too. Find out more.
11. Ghost Bus Tour of York
On Halloween, you jump on the creepy Necrobus for a ghost tour through this historical city’s chilling past. You will ride through the streets on a vintage 1960s Routemaster bus with terrifying tour guides and on-board actors. You will hear haunting but humorous tales as you visit York’s most famous landmarks, including Clifford’s Tower, York Minister, and the grave of infamous highwayman Dick Turpin.

12. The Original Ghost Walk Of York
Interested in the many ghostly goings-on in York? The Original Ghost Walk of York is famed for its team’s knowledge of all things that go bump in the night, escorting guests around the city to see some of York’s most haunted buildings, alleyways, and streets, while learning the spooky folklore and legends of each place.

13. Whitby Abbey Illuminated
This next addition to our list of best things to do in Yorkshire will light up your Halloween celebrations. This October you can experience one of Whitby’s most famous Gothic landmarks after dark. Illuminated Whitby Abbey will see the iconic ruins transformed by dramatic lighting, and an interactive Dracula experience which takes visitors on a haunting journey through Bram Stoker’s classic horror tale.
The event is aimed at all the family, with a very spooky atmosphere but nothing too scary for the little ones. Chilling Halloween costumes are highly encouraged!

14. Trick or Treat Street at William’s Den
Trick or Treat Street returns for 2026 at William’s Den in East Yorkshire, bringing a fun, theatrical trick or treat trail for kids to enjoy. The village square will be full of fun spooks, treats and mysterious characters, who all have their own stories to tell. There is also a Monster Disco, so your little demons can show off their best move and dance along to the live DJ.
The event is designed for under 12s, so expect spooks rather than scares and treats rather than tricks, alongside great food and drink on-site. Find out more here.
15. Doncaster Fear Factory
The award-winning Doncaster Fear Factory returns for its 7th year of spooktacular family-fun. The organisers have promised it will be ‘bigger, darker, and more intense than ever before’.
When exploring the Fear Factory, you will hear the sinister story of the mortician Dr Pierre Dubois, discover a creepy maze experience following the tale of the ‘River Valley Murderer’, and explore a haunted bakery. There is also pumpkin carving and ‘Spookfest’ where you get good tunes, food and drink, and a great atmosphere.
