Whitby Abbey To Glow With Spooky Illuminations This Halloween

Whitby is a place that’s made for celebrating Halloween. This atmospheric seaside town is famous for its influence on Bram Stoker’s horror classic Dracula, the Whitby Goth Festival, and its stunning Gothic architecture, all adding to its appeal as a place of dark charm and mystery.

Well, we have some exciting news for all you fans of the eerier side of life. This Halloween, you will get the chance to see one of Whitby’s most iconic landmarks in a new light. English Heritage are inviting you to visit Whitby Abbey after dark this October to see these stunning Gothic ruins brought to life by dramatic illuminations that light up the night sky.

This year’s edition of Illuminated Whitby Abbey will showcase the Dracula story, with brand-new interactive performances created especially for the event. You will be able to step into the world of the famous Gothic tale and follow the story through the darkness. As you go along, you will uncover its spooky mysteries.

It is a promenade-style performance, so you won’t just have to sit and watch from one spot. You’ll move from one scene to the next as Dracula leads you deeper into his dark and mysterious story.

Spooky Fun for all the Family 

Wondering if you can bring the kids?  Good news, Illuminated Whitby Abbey is suitable for everyone and is a family-friendly experience. Given the Dracula element to the event, there are some eerie parts, but nothing will be too scary for the little ones. So it is the perfect Halloween celebration for the whole family. It will be a great atmosphere with spooky vibes that the kids will love. Oh, and dogs are also welcome if you want to bring along your favourite fur baby as well. 

To add to the fun, Halloween costumes are encouraged! So, get your fake blood, witches’ hats, vampire fangs, and zombie face paint at the ready, and immerse yourself fully into the macabre fun.

If you feel peckish during the event, then no panic, they have got you covered. Local vendors will be serving up ghoulish grub and drinks like fish and chips, burgers, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and much more.

When is Illuminated Whitby Abbey?

Illuminated Whitby Abbey runs from Friday 23rd to Saturday 31st October, from 5.30pm till 9pm. Tickets for the event are now available via the English Heritage website. Don’t miss out, as you will have a hauntingly good time.
