Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade are teaming up once again for Hot or Cold, a new six-part comedy entertainment series commissioned by Netflix for 2027.
Made by Banijay-owned Zeppotron — the production company behind Last One Laughing UK — the series will see teams of comedians and celebrities tackle a succession of baffling challenges inside a mysterious labyrinth of rooms.
The catch is that the contestants won’t be told what they are supposed to do.
Instead, they must work out each challenge for themselves, with the room providing their only clues. When they are getting closer to the solution, the room glows red; when they are heading in the wrong direction, it turns blue. The teams must then race from room to room, attempting to decipher increasingly strange challenges as quickly as possible.
Netflix describes the format as a grown-up version of the classic childhood game of “hot or cold”, with challenges ranging from the apparently simple to the completely absurd.
At the heart of the series are Mortimer and Ayoade, whose partnership will be familiar to viewers of Last One Laughing UK. The pair reached the final stages of the first series, with Mortimer eventually getting the better of Ayoade.
Radio Times, reports, Mortimer said: “Spending time with Richard Ayoade is one of my all-time favourite things to do,” while Ayoade responded in typically understated fashion: “Although I prefer mild temperatures, it’s been instructive to participate in something as binary as this.”
The programme has been commissioned for six episodes and is currently expected to arrive on Netflix in 2027, although an exact premiere date and the identities of the other celebrities taking part have yet to be announced.
