Chain Behind ‘Disgusting’ Yorkshire Hotel Has Been Ranked Worst In The UK For 10th Consecutive Year

We can’t stand it when you pay for a weekend away somewhere that you’re looking forward to and when you get to your hotel room and there are questionable stains on the sheets, a bathroom that looks like it’s never seen a sponge and wallpaper peeling back from the walls.

You may think that this has never happened to you, well, in that case, you can’t have stayed in one of Britain’s worst hotel chain Brittania hotels which have once again been voted the worst for the 10th consecutive year.

The Yorkshire Coast is home to a fine example of one of these. The Grand Hotel in Scarborough from the outside looks like a beautiful stay. The stunning building is quite the focal point of the seaside town, but for whatever reason, it’s been neglected over the years.

The Brittania Hotel chain has once again been named the worst in what has to be the one award that no hotel chain wants to receive. And, once again no one has managed to pip Britannia to the post with this one as it received 4500 criticisms such as ‘tired and tatty’ and ‘rough and ready’.

Britannia has 61 hotels in Britain, that includes Scarborough’s The Grand and also Britannia Hotel in Leeds. And in this year’s Which? survey asking participants to rate the best and worst 35 hotel chains across the UK for things like cleanliness, bed comfort, food, customer service and value for money.

The hotel chain earned a score of just 56% overall customer satisfaction which is up from 49% last year.

Guy Hobbs, Editor of Which? Travel, said about the survey: ‘With a decade of dismal reviews cementing its place as one of the UK’s worst hotel chains, our results suggest that Britannia should be avoided at all costs.

‘With the average price of a UK hotel stay now costing a fifth more than last year, travellers want to be sure they are getting the best possible experience for their money.

‘Our results show that price isn’t necessarily an indicator of quality and many respondents reported fantastic stays with brands including Premier Inn and smaller chains like Warner Hotels.’

Just 22% above Brittania in first place was Premier Inn which scored a satisfaction award of 78% with 5 stars for cleanliness and room matching expectations.
