Channel 5 Releases First Trailer for Anticipated ‘All Creatures Great & Small Series’ 5

Channel 5 has unveiled a new 60-second trailer for the highly anticipated fifth series of All Creatures Great and Small, a beloved adaptation of James Herriot’s renowned stories. The six-part series is set to premiere on Thursday, 19th September at 9 p.m. on Channel 5 and My5, with a Christmas special to follow later in the year.

This critically acclaimed show has become a cornerstone of Channel 5’s programming, drawing strong viewer numbers. Series 4, which aired in October 2023, attracted 4.4 million viewers across its run, solidifying the show’s status as the network’s most popular series.

In the upcoming fifth series, the story continues in Darrowby, set in the Yorkshire Dales during the spring of 1941. As World War II rages on, James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralph) is stationed at RAF Abingdon, while his wife Helen (Rachel Shenton) adjusts to motherhood with their baby, Jimmy. The Skeldale House family, including Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley), are navigating life with the war effort in full swing.

Meanwhile, Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose) has become a fixture at the veterinary practice, and Siegfried is grappling with increased responsibilities. The surprise return of Siegfried’s brother Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), who has been serving in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, promises some unexpected challenges for the family.

The returning cast also includes Patricia Hodge as the sophisticated Mrs Pumphrey, along with her pampered Pekingese, Tricki. Behind the scenes, the writing team features Debbie O’Malley (Payback) and Maxine Alderton (Doctor Who), both serving as Associate Producers. They are joined by writers Matt Evans (Phoenix Rise) and Robin French (Cuckoo), while Brian Percival (Dark Angel) returns as Lead Director and Executive Producer.

The series is produced by Playground in association with All3Media International, with Executive Producers Colin Callender, Melissa Gallant, Sharon Moran, and others. The series was commissioned by Seb Cardwell and Paul Testar of Channel 5.

Fans can catch up on All Creatures Great and Small Series 1-4 on My5, and Channel 5 has already confirmed a double commission for Series 5 and 6, ensuring the beloved stories will continue to delight viewers for some time.
