Channel 5’s ‘Sam and Ade Go Birding’ Finale Visits Yorkshire Coast Tonight

Sam and Ade Go Birding finale takes pair to Yorkshire Coast for puffin hunt Sam and Ade Go Birding concludes its current series tonight at 7pm on Channel 5, as Sam West and Ade Edmondson head to the Yorkshire Coast for a spectacular seabird encounter, heartfelt conversations about ageing and one final attempt to spot a puffin.

The final episode sees the pair visit Bempton Cliffs, home to England’s largest seabird colony, where hundreds of thousands of birds gather above the North Sea.

Ade has one particular bird firmly in his sights: the puffin. Sam is confident he can help his friend spot one, but the pair are soon distracted by the incredible spectacle unfolding across the cliffs.

Around half a million seabirds gather at Bempton each year, including gannets, razorbills, kittiwakes and puffins. During their visit, the birdwatchers also spot a gannet chick that is just hours old, offering a glimpse of new life at this remarkable wildlife haven.

The adventure takes a more personal turn as the friends reflect on ageing and their own futures. With his 60th birthday approaching, Sam discusses his fears following his mother’s experience with dementia and his determination to stay active, including taking up dancing to keep fit.

Ade, meanwhile, looks ahead to turning 70 next year and reflects on how losing weight has given him renewed energy and confidence.

Their conversation highlights how the series is about more than birdwatching, with the natural world providing the backdrop for discussions about friendship, health and growing older. Away from the cliffs, the pair explore the surrounding countryside, where wildflower-rich hedgerows provide a habitat for the threatened tree sparrow.

Ade also has a surprise up his sleeve. Sneaking away from birdwatching, he works on a painting as a special birthday present for Sam. Later, the friends enjoy a peaceful evening before spotting a wild hare in the garden and a kestrel settling down to roost.

Their final stop is Flamborough Head, where Ade hopes to achieve his weekend ambition of seeing a puffin. Sam has arranged a boat trip aboard the Brid Explorer to view the famous seabird colony from the water, although strengthening winds threaten to disrupt their plans.

The pair eventually head out to sea for one last wildlife adventure, with the chance to see gannets diving into the water at close quarters.
