This Yorkshire Neighbourhood Has Been Named In The Coolest In The World

Yorkshire, cool? We’ll take that. I doff my flat to the news. Yorkshire is usually painted as a picture postcard place with rolling hills, traditional pubs and stone walls – which it is. But, rarely do it’s up-and-coming city areas ever get a mention and Kelham Island in Sheffield is a perfect example of a city transformed and it’s finally got the recognition it deserves.

The neighbourhood in question is Kelham Island in Sheffield and it was Timeout magazine featured it in their top 51 coolest neighbourhoods in the world, where it can be seen with the likes of Cais do Sodré in Lisbon Portugal, Vila Madalena in Sao Paulo and little bit more local, Northern Quarter in Manchester.

Coolest in Yorkshire

Described as being “filled by a glut of independent bars, restaurants, shops, cafés and breweries”, it still holds onto its roots as an industrial city giving it a unique feel. When you’re looking to throw around the word ‘cool’ a place has to have an effortless feel and the independents in the area have worked hard to give it just that.

The article also points out its “beautiful waterway that runs through it”, which can be enjoyed from one of our favourite haunts in one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world Riverside.

If you’re looking for places to eat & drink in Kelham Island – we couldn’t recommend Pina enough. Housed in a former warehouse and serving tacos and tequila with tortillas are freshly made in-house every day with love, it’s a cheeky gem that you don’t want to miss.
