‘Happy Valley’ writer Sally Wainright is back with a new Disney Plus show named Renegade Nell and a first look trailer has been released. The new show is written and created by the incredible talent that is Wainright.
Derry Girls actress, Louisa Harland is the protagonist of the the eight-part series. The new show follows the of a strong 18th-century woman, who ends up becoming the most notorious highway woman after being framed for a murder. A magi al spirit called Billy Blind appears and Nell realises her destiny is bigger and she could ever have imagined.
As well as being written by Wainright, who’s famed for Gentleman Jack and Last Tango In Halifax, it is directed by Ben Taylor known for the fantastic Sex Education series. Check out the trailer posted to X with the caption: “If you haven’t heard of Nell Jackson, then you’re probably the only person who hasn’t.”
When is Disney Plus’ Renegade Nell set to be released?
In the new trailer wee see Nell Jackson, played by Louisa Harland, riding a horse as someone asks “Who is she? This Nelly Jackson?” with someone responding: “A highway woman”, then we see everyone gasps with shock.
The show that has us anticipating the new show which is set to be released on Friday 29th March – and we can’t wait.
The synopsis for the show reads: “Nell Jackson, a quick-witted and courageous young woman, finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious outlaw in 18th-century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind appears, Nell realises her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined.”
Alongside Harland, Renegade Nell stars Frank Dillane as Charles Devereux, Alice Kremelberg as Sofia Wilmot” Ényì Okoronkwo as Rasselas, Jake Dunn as Thomas Blancheford, Bo Bragason as Roxy Trotter, Florence Keen as George Trotter, with Nick Mohammed as Billy Blind” Joely Richardson as Lady Eularia Moggerhangar and Adrian Lester as Robert Hennessey, Earl of Poynton” Pip Torrens as Lord Blancheford and Craig Parkinson as Sam Trotter also star.
As well as written and created by Wainwright is also an Executive Producer of Disney Plus’ Renegade Nell and is produced by Lookout Point. Other Executive Producers include Ben Taylor, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, and Johanna Devereaux for Disney+. Amanda Brotchie (Gentleman Jack) and MJ Delaney (Ted Lasso) also direct episodes. Jon Jennings is Series Producer and Stella Merz is Producer.
