Gentleman Jack fans, rejoice, because the beloved Yorkshire-filmed series is coming back for series 2 – and sooner than you may think.
Announcing the news just last month, lead actress Suranne Jones shared an image of her character, Anne Lister, walking through the Yorkshire countryside, saying: “I can smell that Yorkshire air…. Gentleman Jack season 2 Coming this Spring to @bbciplayer and @hbo”
In addition to the announcement, both BBC and Suranne Jones shared a number of first-look images of the new series, too, showcasing a number of characters back in action for the new episodes.
Fans of the hit period drama can expect eight new episodes starting from April 10th, which are all set to air throughout Spring on BBC One.
The series, which is set in Yorkshire in the early 1800s, follows iconic Yorkshirewoman Anne Lister – who famously lived at Shibden Hall, Halifax – as she works to restore her uncle’s estate which she has inherited and begins a dangerous romance with another woman.
The series is based on a number of diaries that Lister left in her death, with much of her writing detailing the string of romances she had with other women, written in a secret code.

Other Yorkshire locations include North Yorkshire’s Sutton Park, alongside quaint York streets such as Goodramgate, Precentor’s Court, Duncolme Place and Minster Yard.
Where can I watch it?
Gentleman Jack series one can be streamed now via BBC iPlayer.
When does series 2 premiere?

Why is it called Gentleman Jack?
Anne Lister was given the nickname of ‘Gentleman Jack’ by her neighbours due to her sexuality. Jack was a word used during that period as a term for a lesbian. Homosexuality was illegal in England until 1967.
