Some faces, you can never forget. And that includes the UK’s ‘ugliest’ dog, Peggy, who hails from East Yorkshire. Crowned ‘Britain’s Ugliest Dog’ back in January 2023, Peggy stole the nation’s hearts when she made headlines, even catching the eye of Hollywood superstar, Ryan Reynolds.
After making the discovery of Peggy online, Reynolds – famed for his role as the iconic Deadpool – decided to cast the Pugese in his new movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, which also stars his Hollywood bestie, Hugh Jackman – returning as his own iconic superhero alter ego, Wolverine.
Reynolds described Peggy as “like the animal manifestation” of his character, Wade Wilson, who in the story loses his looks after being given the healing factor, which deforms his body’s cells.
Peggy lives in the small East Yorkshire village of Leven, so it’s safe to say, she comes from humble beginnings. Peggy was the last remaining dog in her litter, and at six months old, was found by now-owner Holly Middleton. Holly describes Peggy as “beautiful both inside and out”, despite being overlooked by other potential owners due to her bald skin and sticking-out tongue.
Peggy is now known globally as Dogpool, and even attended the recent UK premiere with Ryan Reynolds himself. The pair reportedly got on like a house on fire, with Reynolds embracing Peggy’s kisses like a pro. Because let’s face it, she’s incredibly cute.
Speaking to Empire about her role in the movie, Ryan Reynolds said: “It was, just like many things during the writing process, a tiny little afterthought, and it grew,”
“It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie, and Dogpool became a staple.”
Peggy has since returned home now that filming has been completed, but who knows what the stars hold for the famous pooch next. James Bond, maybe? Mission Impossible? We think she’s well up for the task – and she’s our new favourite Yorkshire superstar.
