Everyone’s favourite copper is set to appear in a new Netflix drama Black Doves. Sarah Lancashire plays the spymaster of Kiera Knightely and Ben Whishaw’s characters in the show that will be hitting the streaming service this December.
Known for her role in the popular BBC drama Happy Valley, we can’t wait to see Lancashire in the new drama. Just a shame that we can’t imagine she’ll be doing the iconic Yorkshire accent for her character Catherine Caewood in the new series.
Whishaw is known for his role in Paddington and Kiera Knightly is known for a range of roles including the popular Disney franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. She’ll play Helen Webb, a quick-witted, dow to a quick-witted, down-to-earth, dedicated wife and mother – and professional spy.
The synopsis for the six-part series Black Doves reads: “For a decade, she’s been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the shadowy organization she works for: the Black Doves. When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (Sarah Lancashire), calls in Helen’s old friend to keep her safe.
Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) is a suave, Champagne-drinking assassin. But having been out of the game since a failed job with disastrous consequences, he’s come home to a London that has moved on without him. As his past threatens to catch up with him, his task is to protect Helen as she investigates who killed Jason and why.
Together, they set off on a mission that will lead them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy. One that links the murky underworld of London to a looming geopolitical crisis — and leads them to question the cost of the moral choices they’ve made.”
The series is set to air on Netflix on Thursday 5th December 2024 – and the series has already been renewed for a second series, so it must be expected to be a huge hit.
