James’ Norton ITV Drama ‘Playing Nice’ Breaks Viewing Figure Records

Yorkshire’s James Norton has broken records with his newest drama Playing Nice. The drama has become ITVX’s biggest-ever launch even beating the now iconic Mr Bates Vs The Post Office that starred Toby Jones as Alan Bates.

Norton’s four-part baby-swap thriller ranks highest in terms of streaming hours for those binging it in one day, nearly double that of other shows. Posting the ITVX news StudioCanal, the production company behind the series gushed over James Norton’s latest offering.

Posting to Instagram they wrote: “Playing Nice is breaking records and is @itvxofficial’s best-ever drama launch… Congratulations to our partners at @itv and @rabbit.track.pictures – don’t miss the thrilling series now streaming in the UK and coming soon internationally.”

Playing Nice is a four-part psychological thriller, also starring Malpractice‘s Niamh Algar based on JP Delaney’s 2020 novel, which follows two couples who discover that their toddlers were switched at birth in a hospital mix-up. The group face a dilemma of either keeping the sons that they raised or reclaiming their biological kids.

James Norton has to defend the new drama after viewers deemed it unrealistic, Digital Spy reported. On The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Norton explained: “Now that I’m producing, you’re looking for stakes and there are no higher stakes than kids… Family, either your parents or your children, they are the thing which you have that 4am anxiety about.

“So this… I mean, look, I don’t want to push back on… the people who are finding it too much, [but] it’s drama.”

If this sounds like a bit of you, you can stream Playing Nice via ITVX.
