The North York Moors Annual Steam Gala is set to return this September. The four-day event is a huge event in rail enthusiasts’ calendars, especially this year, being the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway.
Taking place between the 24th and the 27th, it will celebrate Britain’s steam heritage with famous engines on show, including the No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, T3 Class No.563, and No. 4079.
In addition to some special guests, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will be showcasing its home fleet that includes BR 9F No. 92134, Black 5 No. 44806, Black 5 No. 5428 ‘Eric Treacy’, SR Schools No. 926 ‘Repton’, BR Standard 4 Tank No. 80136, Lambton Tank No. 29 ‘Peggy’, and Cockerill No. 8 ‘Lucie’.
A full timetable of varied services will be operating, offering plenty of experiences for all the senses. You can take in the sights and sounds of these beautiful classic steam trains as they ferry along the scenic 18-mile heritage railway with shuttle services running between Grosmont and Whitby.
There’s a range of one-day tickets to four-day tickets available. The Steam Gala is an absolute gem in the calendar and is joined this year by the Goathland Beer Festival. Features over 40 real ales from local Yorkshire breweries, alongside a selection of traditional ciders.
