Four Yorkshire Chippies Named In Top 10 In UK

If you’re a fish & chip fanatic like us, then you’ll be over the moon to learn that four Yorkshire chippies have featured in the top 10 in the UK. Whether you like ’em lightly battered, cooked in beef dripping, covered in scraps with plenty of salt and vinegar, the great British chippy is a sacred thing and not one person has the same favourite as a chip shop is a deeply personal thing.

A bucket list of chippies is put together each year by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), and the National Fish & Chip Awards 2026 will be celebrated in February 2026, where the ultimate chippy will be named. Last year’s winner was Yarm Road Fish & Chips in Darlington, but this year we have a feeling it’s coming home to Yorkshire.

The chippies are whittled down by expert judges, and this year the Yorkshire chippies are up against the likes of Durham, Essex, Oxfordshire, Aberdeenshire and London. With almost half the competition taken up by Yorkshire, surely we are taking home the gold medal.

We’ve not actually tried any of these chip shops featured in the list, but have heard fantastic things, especially about The Scrap Box, which sits just outside of York in North Yorkshire. The Fish Bank always features in these lists, and we are surprised we’ve managed to stay away for this long.
