A list of restaurants in the UK can never be complete without this Yorkshire institution. The Angel at Hetton has been voted named Gastropub of the Year at this year’s National Restaurant Awards sponsored by Estrella Damm’s.
The 15th-century pub is situated in the picturesque village of Hetton and along with the pub features nine bedrooms, which makes it an ideal base for visitors to explore the wider Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Commonly known as one of the country’s first gastropubs the pub is run by Michelin star chef, Michael Wignall. The pub found in the Yorkshire Dales was awarded a Michelin star and listed back in the guide back in 2020.

And, the place has kept its standards up ever since. Michael Wignall is known as one of the UK’s most respected chefs and has won a Michelin star for every kitchen that has had him at the helm since 1993. The last two venues he headed were The Latymer at Pennyhill Park in Surrey and Gidleight Park in Devon.

Serving up an à la carte menu or multi-course tasting menus that are available at both lunch and dinner. You can “expect a trio of snacks as well as freshly made sourdough and a selection of cultured butter before tucking into some of the most inventive cooking and immaculate plating in the country at the moment” according to Estrella Damm’s review of the prestigious pub.

The venue offers French cuisine at its finest and is just a short drive from the Gateway to the Dales, Skipton. The ivy-clad exterior offers an insight into the beautiful dishes that are all crafted works of art. Back Lane, Hetton, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 6LT
