His son Charles Robert Hinchcliffe still helps around on the Netherton farm today. The farm shop offers customers top-quality meat, sausages and pork pies along with pork pies all with service with a smile. The beef is reared and grazed in the surrounding area as their farm-fresh eggs also hold an accolade.

Hinchcliffe’s is also home to the first independently controlled rearing unit in Great Britain. But the story of Britain’s oldest farm shop is not all record-breaking happiness. In 2010, Hinchcliffe’s farm shop, butchery, restaurant, Greenhouse and office were all destroyed in a fire that ripped through the farm. Luckily, they managed to save most of the animals on the site.

And, from that they went from Britain’s oldest farm shop to Britain’s newest farm shop, opening the farm shop 8 years after the blaze burnt down the original. The new build has all that the family held dear and much more.
